James Horner's dramatic music for 'Apollo 13' climbs 20 places this year
Horner, who died in a plane crash in 2015, was probably best known for his Academy Award-winning contribution to director James Cameron's cinematic epic, Titanic. His work covered many different genres ranging from sci-fi (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan), action (Patriot Games) and, of course, fact-based drama as is the case with this Ron Howard-helmed film. Utilising huge orchestrations of more sombre pieces to reflect the tension and heroism of a space mission that goes terribly wrong, Horner evoked the sense of danger, claustrophobia and bravery that's felt by both the stranded astronauts and the technicians back at Mission Control trying to bring their crew back down to Earth. From the stirring Main Title through to the splash down, Horner's music is there every step of the way to help tell this incredible story.
