The Magnificent Seven
Elmer Bernstein

The iconic Western theme rises five places in this year's chart, but will there be a place in the top 10 for that master of film soundtracks, Elmer Bernstein?

This 1960 film directed by John Sturges and starring Steve McQueen tells the story of an oppressed Mexican peasant village that brings together seven gunfighters to help defend their homes. The film is actually a re-make of Akira Kurosawa's classic The Seven Samurai.

Bernstein's epic score is one of the most iconic pieces of music ever written for film. His work also includes the soundtracks for Cape Fear, The Great Escape and The Age of Innocence.
