Ludwig van Beethoven

1st of Beethoven's 20 entries.

Beethoven certainly knows how to write a great tune, and this sonata from 1808 is no exception. Its particularly striking start is surely one of the many reasons this sonata has made it into the top 300 this year — the music kicks off with a statement tune, played only by the cello, before being answered by the piano. It's a sonata at its best, where both players take it in turns in a musical conversation.
