Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Mozart is the most popular composer in the Ultimate Hall of Fame, with 20 entries in total. This is the third of them; it reached its highest position of 183 in 2008.
Along with its cheery 'Alleluia', Mozart's solo religious motet was written in 1773 for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini. Today, the piece is performed by a soprano, who has to be able to tackle the final movement's speedy running scales — it may not have been written for the stage, but the discipline and skill required to sing the music is that of an opera diva.
