Somewhere in Time
John Barry

62

John Barry's gorgeous flute theme dominates this romantic sci-fi drama starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. It has fallen nine places since the 2013 Movie Music Hall of Fame.

Somewhere in Time was another great example of Barry's ability to create a beautiful film score that would stand the test of time possibly more than the film itself. The composer's soundtrack to this slice of romantic science-fiction from 1980, in which Reeve's playwright falls in love with a woman in a photograph and travels through time to meet her, was one of his great works, even though the film itself was not very well received by audiences or critics at the time. Barry's music holds it own against that of the great composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, whose Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini also runs throughout the film.
