1492 Conquest of Paradise (soundtrack)
Vangelis

It's not all about Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner for Vangelis, as he proved with his score for Ridley Scott's epic.

Reunited with director Ridley Scott for the first time since Blade Runner to mark the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the new world, Vangelis' soundtrack takes an ambivalent view of Columbus' achievements. Here, Vangelis makes use of Hispanic rhythms and creates a mood of majesty when dealing with the start of Columbus' voyage from Spain before utilizing more ethnic influences when dealing with the innocence and subsequent tensions with the indigenous inhabitants of the land Columbus purports to discover. Overlooked at the Academy Awards, Vangelis' soundtrack for 1492: Conquest of Paradise was nominated for Best Original Score — Motion Picture at the 1993 Golden Globe awards.
